Which hook-block areas are reviewed?
Hook throat/body condition, safety latch, rotation/articulation, interfaces, sheaves and correct rope tracking are assessed against equipment documentation and operating conditions.
Why review the rope path with the hook block?
Rope-sheave-drum geometry and reeving determine how load is transferred through the hoisting mechanism. Irregular tracking or wear should not automatically be assigned to one component.
Which data help with part identification?
Provide overall and close-up hook-block photos, rope diameter and construction where known, sheave dimensions, equipment nameplate, connection geometry and observed operating symptoms.
When should operation stop?
If there is suspected hook deformation/cracking, loss of safety-latch function, serious rope damage or abnormal load-path behaviour, place the equipment in a safe condition and obtain competent technical assessment.
